Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Prentice Women's Hospital
OBJECTIVE
Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s effort and commitment to bring ecological
benefits to their newest building and the surrounding neighborhood, Prentice
Women’s Hospital was designed to be a green building – “An eco-friendly facility
that would improve the health of patients and positively impact the
environment”.
The engineer’s objective was to decrease operating static pressure by
implementing EBTRON airflow measurement on all VAV return air valves. Outside
airflow measurement was added on system serving the boiler room for dilution.
EBTRON’s local representative Energy Improvement Products, Inc. (EIP) supported
ESD specifications and coordinated installation requirements with Johnson
Controls and the ventilation contractor who fabricated duct sections with EBTRON
AFMS and TAMCO dampers at their facility.
RESULTS
With EBTRON Advantage airflow stations, Prentice Women’s Hospital meets the
requirements of ASHRAE 62.1-2004/2007 and the International Mechanical Code
ventilation requirements, reduces energy costs and accomplishes their mission to
create the best environment possible for care, diagnostics, patient services and
education.
Evaluation of installation from Michael L. Smith, Project Manager, Johnson
Controls, Inc.: “The big advantage to utilizing the Ebtron Silver Series in
the Return Air Valve Application proved to be flexibility. The manufacturer’s
recommended laying lengths (upstream and downstream) were often impossible to
meet with the amount of other services in the ceiling. Ebtron Silver Series
AFMS’s delivered accurate and repeatable air flow measurement under less than
ideal ductwork configurations.”
